People face multiple issues, demand action

Srinagar, Jan 31: While the Srinagar city has been struggling as the administration failed to clear snow from footpaths in time, same appears to the case with the villages in South Kashmir where the lanes and by-lanes remained covered with snow.
The residents of villages from Kulgam, Anantnag, Pulwama and Shopian told Excelsior that they are facing immense hardships due to the failure of the administration in clearing the lanes and other link roads that are connecting these villages with the towns.
“The snow has not been cleared from the lanes and the snow that came down from the rooftops of the houses also got accumulated there, therefore, blocking the ways further,” said Arshid Ahmad from Kulgam.
The people who had their vehicles parked in their lawns have not been able to drive them out as the roads stand blocked. At some places, people have cleared the roads themselves in order to be able to walk properly.
“The lanes connect the population with the rest of the area and one wonders what are we going to do in case of any Medical emergency as there is no way possible for a vehicle to reach the inner areas due to the snow-covered roads,” Aijaz Ahmad Dar from Shopian said.
While the people from villages rue the official apathy, the situation is termed to be the same even in the towns of various southern districts where the lanes remain covered with the snow.
“The lane leading to my house is more than 2 km long and I am telling you that the entire way remains covered with the snow. The snow that has fallen from the rooftops also stands accumulated there; are the villages anyone’s priority,” said Ghulam Muhammad from Pulwama.
Notably, people across Kashmir valley have been criticising the Government for its failure this winter in tackling the issues that people were to face. The Government, people said, was ill-equipped and was really not prepared to face the winter blues.
“We have been seeing that the administration has even failed in cities this winter let alone villages as they appear to be no one’s priority. Now, we are appealing the administration to have a look at these villages and take measures to ease our hassles,” said Ata Muhammad from Anantnag.
