Srinagar, Dec 15: The Srinagar Administration today warned of strict action against those found violating the norms and causing traffic jams in the city, while also underlining that nobody will be allowed to hamper the movement of the ambulances on the city roads.
In this connection, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar along with several other officials of the different departments such as SMC, Revenue as well as SDA carried out a thorough drive during which the DC said that the drive will be a sustained one and the smooth passage of the traffic will be ensured in the city.
“Today’s drive was to help the traffic department in its works and was carried out by the Srinagar Administration along with SDA, Revenue SMC after complaints of traffic jams in the city and the movement of the ambulances getting hampered were received,” DC Srinagar Aijaz Asad said,
He said that there is a lack of civic sense among people commuting on the roads who end up causing traffic jams on the roads. “There is no dearth of road space; parking spaces are also amply available. What is however lacking is the civic sense,” he said.
Concerning the movement of ambulances getting affecting in the city, he said that administration will ensure that the movement of ambulances is not hampered. “There is a need for people to understand the sensitivity of the issue and act accordingly while on road,” he said.
Asad said that the minibuses and other vehicles used to transport passengers are often seen stopping their vehicles in the middle of the road, thus, hampering the movement of the traffic and sometimes causing hurdles for even the ambulances to pass by.
“Several buses have been challaned near Jehangir Chowk as well as Batamalloo as they were caught violating the norms and affecting the traffic movement, such things need to be corrected,” DC said.
He said that there is a need for people to adhere to the rules and regulations and only that can help in regulating the traffic. “There is a need for collective efforts to deal with the traffic scenario in the city. There are repeated violations that have been witnessed, but a sustained drive will be carried out to deal with the issues that are in hand.
DC also appealed to people, particularly the shopkeepers to make use of the parking spaces that are available in the city and play their role in regulating the traffic movement. “During the drive, we saw cars of shopkeepers parked in front of their shops at Jehangir Chowk which blocks the traffic movement,” he said,
Commissioner SMC Athar Amir also assured of a sustained campaign against the road encroachers which shrinks the road space, causing traffic jams.
