Administration holds interaction with young artists, researchers

LEH, May 29: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Avny Lavasa held a roundtable discussion with a group of young local professionals and researchers from different fields, here.
ADC Moses Kunzang and District Officers from concerned departments were also present in the meeting.
Mentioning the aim of holding this open discussion with young professionals, DC said that it is an effort to know about their idea of development and how they can contribute through their expertise in future developmental process and activities. Lavasa stressed on the need for intervention on region specific planning for Leh district considering the distinct cultural, geographical and historical importance of this region.
Moses Kunzang urged the young local professionals to take advantage of this platform in gaining credibility of their work and put in for the community with passion and spirit.
Researchers and artists presented their works and projects, and also ideas to make development more relevant and appropriate to for the region keeping in view of Ladakh’s distinct cultural and topographical uniqueness.
Sculptor Tsering Gyurmet from the Progressive Artists of Ladakh presented his work in sculpting rocks and ice, while architect Smanla Norbu suggested for replacing concrete architectures of buildings with mud walls. Rigzin Chosdon from LAMO spoke about the present state of Archives and Antiquities Department in Leh and suggested that all historical documents available with the Archives need to be urgently digitalized before they are lost.
Members from LAMSTAN gave a presentation about how the organisation of students guides younger students with career counselling and other programmes. Sculptor Chemet Dorjay, ceramic artist Tundup and Henk Thomas also presented their works and ideas before the administration.
Later, possibility to involve many of the researchers to fine tune several initiatives being initiated by the district administration in Leh was also discussed.
District officers and members of Press Club Leh were also present on the occasion.
