Administrative failure mars year-old recruitment process at GMC Anantnag

Candidates await selection list

SRINAGAR, Oct 29: The apparent administrative failure has marred the recruitment for various temporary posts that were advertised by the Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag last year, causing significant frustration for the qualifying candidates and raising questions over the effective management of the overall process.
According to the details, despite conducting the examination and releasing the merit list in August, the GMC authorities have not yet issued the final selection list, further adding to the candidates’ frustration.
Individuals familiar with the recruitment process have informed that the GMC authorities have made it a point that the children of a former official, who used to work there, have also appeared in the exam for two of the advertised posts and that there are apprehensions that the official might have “extended favours” to facilitate their selection.
In response, the medical college authorities have already established a committee to scrutinize the entire examination process, aiming to identify any “possible favours” extended to the children of the former officer. However, as of now, nothing has been ascertained in this regard.
On the contrary, a report from the Grievance Redressal Office at GMC Anantnag has clearly stated that the existing committee has suggested the formation of another committee while recommending the cancellation of the examination “without any documentary proof.”
While this report was sent to the Principal of the medical college on October 11, the concerned candidates have informed Excelsior that they have reached out to the authorities and the officials of the district administration several times. However, despite assurances, little has changed on the ground.
One of the candidates mentioned, “The concerned Deputy Commissioner of the district also called the Principal of GMC Anantnag and was told that the selection list would be issued in a few days, but nothing has happened so far.”
According to the details, the recruitment was initiated for various nursing and paramedical posts, totaling over 40 in number, which were temporary positions initially for a one-year period. Thirteen posts were advertised for Staff Nurses, and thirteen were advertised for Junior Staff Nurses. The examination for nursing posts was held in November, and for the paramedical posts, the exam was conducted in April.
The report from the Grievance Redressal Office has also noted that the officials who were involved in conducting the examination for these posts have provided written statements affirming that the examination was conducted in a free and fair manner.
“The children of a former official there have appeared in the examination for the position of theater assistant. If there are doubts there, fine, but what about the selection list for other posts? Why should others suffer? It is a failure on the part of the authorities,” said the aggrieved candidates.
The report echoes this sentiment, stating that if any further evaluation is deemed necessary, it should be limited to the positions of OT technician and Junior Staff Nurse, which are facing allegations.
While the matter remains pending, Principal of GMC Anantnag, Dr. AnjumFarhana, told Excelsior that they will ensure that the selection list is released shortly. “These are all meritorious students, and we do not want them to suffer at any cost. We will ensure that the selection is released within three working days,” she said.
