LEH, Apr 12: District Magistrate (DM) Leh, Sachin Kumar has issued an order fixing responsibility of Admins of social networking sites in the district for any irresponsible post.
The order stated that it has come to the notice of the DM that various irresponsible messages and posts which can hurt religious as well as regional sentiments are being circulated on social media in Leh.
It further stated that the official communiqués, which are not supposed to be shared on social media, are also being shared there.
In the order, the DM mentioned that accountability is also associated with the freedom of expression therefore, the Admins of various social media groups should immediately restrict such information on the group and remove and report members who share such posts.
The order instructed each WhatsApp/Facebook group admin to report the nearest police station if any post which is sensitive and likely to cause public disorder is circulated on social media groups.
It further mentioned that the concerned Group Admin shall bear responsibility and ownership of the content posted in the group besides he/she shall immediately delete the said comment.
There was a warning in the order that any violation of these instructions will lead to strict action under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and IPC and any other relevant provisions of law.
