UDHAMPUR, Sept 28: District Administration, Udhampur, in collaboration with Army and Border Roads Organisation has finalized construction of 1 Foot Over Bridge, 2 foot bridges and one double span bridge to decongest accident prone Military Hospital Chowk in the town.
District Development Commissioner, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary along with Col G S Chandawat of Northern Command, Col Vishal Sharma of BRO, Jt Director Planning Rakesh Jamwal, Superintending Engineer PMGSY S Sehgal, X-En PWD, DGM JKPCC, and senior officer from Revenue, Army, BRO and ULB conducted a joint visit on the spot for initiation of work.
Northern Command will be constructing a 16 Mtr long Foot Over Bridge on request of district administration while 2 foot bridges along the existing bridge at MH Chowk will be constructed by the administration under convergence. One double lane additional bridge parallel to the existing bridge has also been mooted at a cost of Rs 1.82 crore for which DPR has been prepared.
The work on 3 projects will commence within a fortnight while the double lane bridge will be initiated by the end of year. BRO has been asked for upgradation of road from Jakheni to College road by removal of encroachments, construction of drains and blacktopping of damaged parts.
The DDC expressed gratitude to Lt Gen N P S Hira, Chief of Staff NC and the GOC Northern Command for their prompt help which will go a long way in decongesting traffic, ensuring safety of commuters & pedestrian and providing vital infrastructure. He also directed the PWD to initiate work on 2 foot bridges along the existing bridge for commuters and connect with the FOB. He termed the project as an exemplary coordination between administration, army and BRO which will be a great relief for the locals.
Earlier, the DDC reviewed the performance of various departments in District Plan, State Plan, CSS and Flagship programmes. Presentations were made by SE PWD, SE PMGSY, DFO Ramnagar, CMO, X-En PHE, SE PWD, SE PMGSY, DFO Ramnagar, CEO and other officers. All district and sectoral officers gave a resume of achievement of targets. Revenue department briefed about identification of land for amusement park, nursing college and polytechnic.
A detailed presentation was also made on project monitoring in the district. Implementation of DDB decisions and weekly progress of various departments was also reviewed in the meeting.
