Admn imposes fine on 10-food business operators

Srinagar, Nov 12: The district administration in Anantnag today slapped a penalty of around Rs 2. 61 lakh on at least ten food business operators for selling misbranded and sub-standard food items in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
According to Food Safety officials, at least ten cases were presented to Additional Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, who is adjudicating cases under the Food Safety and Standards Act, where a penalty of around Rs 261000 was imposed on business operators for selling misbranded and sub-standard food items. “The offences were put in front of the officer who found the food operators guilty,” Food Inspector Anantnag, Zameer Ahmad said.
He said that the samples were taken during market checks and that cases had been filed against them after an adverse report. “The food safety department had taken samples of food items from various locations some days back and charges had been filed against them after an adverse report,” he added.
He said that a copy of the well-known brand P-Mark oil had also surfaced.
