KATHUA, Sept 7: The joint demolishing team of district administration Kathua, Municipal Council Kathua and police today sealed over half a dozen shops at Chak near here on Nagri road which along with a residential complex were constructed on State land by one Rajinder Singh (Bubby).
As per reports the district administration Kathua led by District Development Commissioner, Dr Raghav Langer which has launched demolishing drive in the district to vacate the State land encroached by mafia issued directives to MC Kathua to send a notice to Rajinder Singh to vacate the Government land and demolish the structure constructed over it. However, when Singh failed to vacate the land, today the administration launched an anti encroachment drive which was led by Additional DC Kathua, Ghanshyam Singh, Executive Officer, M C Kathua, Sanjeev Gandotra and Dy SP Headquarters, Kathua, Nikhil Rasgotra. A heavy deployment of police force and other officials was also made by the administration to deal with mafia in case of any resistance shown by them. As the team was ready to launch the demolition of the structure Rajinder Singh along with his advocate reached the spot and objected the action saying that he has the legal papers of land as it was purchased by him 15 years back. He also said that he is in possession of revenue records of the land which are on his name. As he and his advocate were arguing with the officers, the DC Kathua also reached the spot in the meantime and he asked the team to go ahead with demolition of the structures.
The team asked the shopkeepers to empty the shops within half an hour. But in the meantime when the team went in the residential complex over the shops to get it also vacated, a family putting on rent there objected saying that the house wife had given birth to a child some days back and they can’t vacate the house as the condition of both mother and baby is not good.
The administration deputed a team of doctors to check the lady and the baby and on the advice of doctors, the team suspended the demolition drive for some days. However, they sealed the shops and also snapped the water and power connections.
Later ADC Ghanshyam Singh told reporters that they have sealed the shops and suspended the demolition drive on medical grounds of mother and baby which will be started soon after they recover.
