Srinagar, Apr 26: As the entire village of Gund Qaiser in district Bandipora has been quarantined, the district administration today sealed a central mosque of the village in order to avoid any “misuse” of the premise.
What is interesting is that the district administration is also taking care of the cattle belonging to the villagers in the absence of their owners.
Officials said that the Tehsildar of the area visited the area and sealed the masjid keeping in view the gravity of the situation in the village and other surrounding villages.
District Bandipora has emerged as worst affected district amid COVID-19 pandemic in J&K with more than 100 COVID positive cases belonging from the district.
Village Gund Qaiser in the district has become the first village whose entire population has been sent to quarantine as the village reported a number of COVID positive cases.
As the entire population of the village remains away in the quarantine, the district administration’s concern is not only the wellbeing of the population, but it is also taking care of their houses, and cattle that they left behind
The administration has handed over the cattle belonging to the people of the village to the Department of Animal Husbandry-which has been tasked to look after the cattle in the absence of their owners.
“It would have been a loss to the villagers, if their cattle were left unattended, so the administration took on the job and directed the concerned department to do the needful,” an official said.
While confirming the sealing of the masjid in the district, Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora Shahbaz Mirza told Excelsior that they thought it necessary to seal the masjid in order to avoid any misuse of the religious place.
“There is nobody around in the village as the cases surged and the entire population was to be quarantined; so we thought that better is to seal the masjid,” he said.
Another village, Gund Jehangir has also reported a number of COVID-19 positive cases, however, Gund Qaiser turned out to be unfortunate as its entire population has been quarantined.
As per figures, the number of cases is rapidly increasing in Bandipora, with cases having doubled in last at least 10 days. There have been few recoveries as well from the district.
