JAMMU, Apr 6: Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri has asked the functionaries of R&B and PMGSY to adopt best engineering techniques to create sustainable public infrastructure in the State.
He cautioned against any deficiency and lapse on account of quality of the work while executing different projects in the State, adding that any negligence in this regard will be viewed seriously.
These directions were given by the Minister while chairing meetings of the officers and engineers of Roads and Buildings Department and PMGSY held here today. The meetings were convened to review the status of different ongoing projects being carried out in Jammu division.
Minister of State for Roads and Buildings, Sunil Kumar Sharma was also present in the meeting.
Commissioner Secretary, Public Works, Chief Engineers R&B, PMSGY, SEs R&B, PMGSY and Executive Engineers of R&B besides PMGSY attended the meeting.
The Public Works Minister emphasized that Government would ensure complete transparency and accountability in the working of the sector for building durable and quality public infrastructure. He directed the R&B and PMGSY higher ups to gear up their men and machinery to complete the substantial task in a time bound manner. He called for adhering to the prescribed specifications in works and using quality construction material for creating assets.
Asserting that the Government is determined to bring transparency in its functioning at all levels, he cautioned the officers to refrain from taking up works without administrative approval and without tendering process.
“No work will be taken up without administrative approval and proper tendering and this has to be borne in the mind by all the concerned”, the Minister maintained and added that transparency in the functioning of organizations has been flagged as top priority by the Government.
Taking review of the status of ongoing works and the condition of roads in Jammu, the Minister asked the concerned to expedite the works on all vital roads and bridges in the division for better convenience of the people.
Underlining the need for ensuring usage of quality material in the works, the Minister said quality of works and timely completion of projects should be the benchmark of the department concerned. He said delay in completion of works is putting unnecessary financial burden on the exchequer and called for arresting this tendency.
Veeri, while reviewing the status of forest clearance cases, asked the concerned officers for strong coordination especially at ground level for expeditious execution of prestigious road projects. He said that unnecessary delay in forest clearance cases should be taken seriously as this influences and hinders the very purpose of raising these vital projects.
The Minister also stressed upon the concerned officers to personally monitor on-going projects under various schemes across the State, adding that proper monitoring, judicious utilization of funds and optimal use of resources will ensure timely completion of these projects which will benefit people at the grass root level.
He said the PMGSY was launched in the States to connect rural habitations with the urban, adding that the concerned have to accelerate their measures to complete the projects in a time bound manner for the benefit of the rural populace. He said that Government is always ahead in extending cooperation for effective implementation of scheme in the State.
