JAMMU, Apr 1: Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai today directed the officers of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department to speed up the dredging of the River Jhelum.
The direction was conveyed to the Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control Kashmir by the Advisor while taking cognizance of certain media reports about the slow pace of the dredging. He also asked the department about taking necessary measures for rectifying the fault which has occurred in the dredging machines.
The Advisor also called for creating awareness about the action to be initiated by the department while undertaking the dredging and also the plans which it contemplates to undertake on long term basis so that the holding capacity of the Jhelum and its tributaries besides various flood channels gets increased.
