Advisor Narula reviews progress on JJM

LEH, Jan 14: Advisor, UT Ladakh, Umang Narula chaired a meeting to review the progress and implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), at Civil Secretariat.
Commissioner/Secretary Public Health Engineering (PHE) A K Sahu, Deputy Commissioner Leh Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Superintending Engineer of both Leh and Kargil districts, and other officials from the concerned department from Leh and Kargil, attended the meeting.
Umang Narula highlighted the importance of the JJM programme and also directed the concerned officials to make necessary arrangements for its smooth implementation.
Commissioner/Secretary PHE apprised the Advisor about the formation of district and village-level water and sanitation committees and shared that proper implementation mechanism for the JJM programme is in place. He further informed that the agencies required for the third-party inspection- an essential aspect of the implementation- have been hired in both Leh and Kargil districts.
Sahu gave a detailed account of the extent of coverage, water quality and sustainability of the structure that are other aspects of the JJM programme. He also focused on the need for an alternate workable strategy such as a district-level central procurement of materials, empanelling of contractors for achieving time-bound targeted results and using better technologies to prevent the freezing of water during the winter..
The Advisor indicated that a review of the scheme would be taken every 15 days to monitor the progress of the JJM programme.
