NEW DELHI, Apr 18: An advisory group, headed by Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, today discussed the fuel supply hurdles faced by power generation companies.
The group comprising industry captains including Cyrus Mistry, Anil Ambani and Chanda Kocchar discussed fuel supply bottlenecks affecting power generation and pooling prices of imported and domestic coal to arrive at an average price at which the fossil fuel will be supplied to power units.
“The (advisory) group discussed issues of coal and gas pooling, coal linkage, availability, procurement…Gas shortage,
and means to address unavailability were also discussed,” Scindia told reporters after a nearly three-hour long meeting.
This was the Group’s third meeting after it was constituted in February, this year, to deliberate on issues affecting the sector.
The advisory group will meet next on May 1 to discuss hydro-related issues, he said.
At present, the power sector is facing acute coal and gas shortage due to which about 4,500 MW capacity projects are stranded.
Former bureaucrats from the power ministry and the ministry of environment and forests, and PSU heads are also part of the advisory group.
