On February 1, two armed robbers, wearing helmets and expensive suits, stormed into Anand Jewelers, placed a sharp weapon on the throat of the woman owner of the store, and looted 1,500 grams of gold worth crores, Rs 35,000 in cash, and a mobile phone before fleeing the crime scene.
Taking cognizance of the incident, which instilled fear in the jeweler community, SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, while addressing media persons here, said that a case (FIR number 19/2025) under Sections 309(3), 311, and 3(5) of the BNS was registered at Police Station Gangyal, and several teams were constituted, including one Special Investigation Team (SIT) supervised by SP Jammu South Ajay Sharma and headed by SDPO Jammu South, Sunil Jasrotia.
“This SIT, with inputs from different police teams on the ground and the technical team, arrested three persons after around two months of hectic investigation,” the SSP Jammu said. Click here to watch video
He identified the key conspirator as Rahul Sharma (advocate) of Lower Canal, near Grameen Bank, Bishnah, and two others who executed the crime as Sunil Sharma (26) of Bhagani Rafta, Gharota, and Tushar Kumar of Lower Canal, Bishnah.
According to the SSP Jammu, while Sunil Sharma was a history-sheeter with three to four FIRs already registered against him, there was no FIR previously registered against the other accused, Tushar Kumar.
He said that preliminary questioning revealed that the accused, who took almost a year to plot the robbery, were inspired by a similar gold heist conducted in the Samaypur Badli area of Delhi in 2023.
When asked about recoveries made from the accused, the SSP Jammu said, “While all the stolen ornaments have been recovered, the bike used in the commission of the crime, the clothes worn by the accused, and the weapon used to terrorize the woman owner of the store are yet to be recovered.”
The recovered items include seven pairs of earrings (Jhumka) and one single piece, nine gold chains, one gold chain set, 30 gold bangles, two pieces of ‘Rani Haar’, seven small gold sets, 11 gold rings, seven lockets without chains, 49 earrings, 16 tops, six stone earrings, and one sterling silver watch.
According to the police officer, the value of the seized ornaments is over Rs 1 crore.
He said that further investigation into the case is underway, as more arrests are expected.
