AFCON workers continue protest

JAMMU,  June 25: The workers of AFCON Company engaged in the construction of Railway track / bridge in Reasi area  are on protest since June 19.
They launched their protest against violation of Labour Laws by the company  and inaction on the part of State Labour Department authorities.  These workers are sitting on protest dharna outside the Central office of AFCON at Baradari, Reasi. They are demanding action by the Railway Minister against the Company.
They alleged that many workers were thrown out just for the reason that they demanded payment of wages in time and also raised issues of workers’ welfare with the company managers. Even there is no provision of medical aid to the ailing workers or even in case of any accident at the site.
Former MLC  and senior Congress leader Jugal Kishore Sharma also joined the protesting workers and assured to take up the issue with the higher authorities in the company and also top Government functionaries in the Railways and State Labour Commissioner.
Sharma, a former R&B Minister said that violation of Labour Laws  by the company will not be tolerated and he would strongly take up the issue with the State Labour officials and also Railway Ministry. He strongly supporters the cause of workers  and said that work force in the area will compel Company to release wages of the workers, reinstate those   thrown out on flimsy grounds and ensure much needed facilities for the workers at the site.
