This has reference to the article ‘Armed Forces Special Powers Act in J&K State’ DE Dec 19.
The author of the write-up has lucidly presented its both versions-positive and negative. At the end, he has clearly reasoned out why it should not be scrapped right now. The matter therefore does not need to be debated.
The Act has become a victim of dirty politics played by politicians and separatists for their vested interests. These people forget the motive behind implementing the Act. The Act became a necessity in view of the proxy war launched by Pakistan. Though there may be many cases where it may have been abused. The Army should, and has taken note of such an aberration. The conviction of Armymen involved in such cases amply proves that Army does not believe in human rights violation.
