Several members spoke with Excelsior after the half-day session, indicating that in the coming days, they would speak openly and described the first two days as a “beginning.”
MLA Hazratbal, Salman Ali Sagar, emphasized the importance of the remaining duration of the session. “From tomorrow, the normal business of the House will start. You wait and watch what happens and how the business of the House moves forward,” he said.
MLA Kulgam, M Y Tarigami, also described the first two days of the session as just a beginning, emphasizing that members would speak openly from tomorrow.
“This is the start, and the LG’s address will be discussed in the Assembly. I hope that the members will speak about it openly,” he said.
Tarigami highlighted the resolution passed by the Cabinet for the restoration of Statehood, noting its mention in the LG’s address and calling it a “big step.”
He added, “It’s a big step. J&K was downgraded and reduced to the level of a Municipality-is that a small thing? We must focus on restoring civil liberties for the people, as well as rights for the media and Government employees.”
When asked about a potential resolution against the abrogation of Article 370, which the NC has pledged to introduce, he responded, “I am not an Advisor to the Government. Whatever I have to say, I will say it in the Assembly.” He added, “As a citizen, Article 370 is a matter of faith for me.”
MLA Udhampur-East, Ranbir Singh Pathania, commented on the commotion caused by MLA Pulwama, Waheed Ur Rehman Parra, who requested the House to adopt a resolution against the abrogation of Article 370 and to seek the restoration of Statehood.
Pathania noted that the matter was not listed on the agenda and was not submitted to the Speaker.
“Media can only report what is part of the official business. The matter was reported and reproduced by a political party for cheap publicity,” he said.
He called it contempt of the House and urged the Speaker to take necessary action.
When asked how the BJP would respond if the Government brought a Resolution on Article 370, he replied, “Parliament has passed the law, and the Supreme Court has upheld it.”
MLA Habba Kadal, Shameema Firdous, emphasized that the National Conference remains committed to Article 370, pointing out that it was during the PDP-BJP alliance that Article 370 was abrogated.
“We talk about 370 and Statehood, and we have assured the people of our commitment. What the PDP did yesterday was just for the cameras. The only party that can work on this is the NC,” she said.
