Srinagar, Jan 22: After the exams of class 11 were postponed due to inclement weather conditions in the first week of January, the JKBOSE has finally decided not to hold the exams for the postponed papers because of plummeting temperature.
As per a notification, the board has decided not to hold the exams of the papers that were scheduled to be held on January 3 and 6, rather the marks for the postponed papers will be awarded proportionately as the mean of marks obtained by the candidates in other papers.
The papers that were scheduled to be held on January 3 include mathematics and applied mathematics of the science stream, sociology of the arts stream and one more subject of the home science stream. On January 6, the examination for additional subjects was also scheduled but were not held due to snowfall.
The notification from the JKBOSE reads: “It is hereby notified for the information of all the concerned that the examination of the theory papers which were scheduled to be held on 03-01-2021 and 06-01-2021 and the external practical of Higher Secondary party- 1st ( class 11) Annual Regular Session 2020 of Kashmir Division and Warwan, Kishtwar District (centre no 23606/HSS Warwan only) of Jammu Division (winter zone) but were postponed due to heavy snowfall shall not be held now…”
The JKBOSE has also decided on the scheme under which the marks will be awarded to the candidates in the papers that were postponed on these two days. The scheme is the same for both theory papers as well as the External Practical.
“The marks in the leftover theory papers that were postponed shall be awarded proportionately as the mean of the marks obtained by the candidate in other theory papers in which he/she has appeared,” the notification states about the scheme form theory papers.
Regarding the scheme for the external practical exam, the notification reads: “The marks in the external practical shall be awarded proportionately on the basis of the marks obtained in internal assessment already conducted by the respective Schools of Kashmir Division and Winter Zone areas of Jammu Division.”
Earlier, the matter was taken by the higher-ups who had sought a proposal from the concerned, after there was a hue and cry over the indecisiveness of the board authorities regarding the conduct of examination of the postponed papers.
Board officials said that the decision of not examining these papers have been taken because of prevailing weather condition where the mercury usually remains on the minus scale.
