SRINAGAR : After some relief due to early morning rain and winds, weather turned hot and humid again as Sun appeared from behind the clouds progressed in the Kashmir valley.
The maximum temperature was near normal while the night temperature recorded drop barring it Pahalgam, base camp of holy Amarnath cave where the pilgrimage is going on smoothly.
Major parts of the Valley received fresh rain early this morning, providing the much needed relief to people, who otherwise pray for dry weather as memories of last year’s September flood haunt them.
A Met department spokesman said there could be isolated and scattered rain in the Valley during the next six days while in Jammu region isolated, scattered, fairly widespread and widespread rain is expected during the next six days.
However, weather will remain dry during the next three days in Ladakh region, he said. After witnessing more than three degree below normal minimum temperature, people in the summer capital, woke up to a cloudy and rainy morning. Against yesterday’s 17.3 degrees Celsius minimum temperature, it was 14.7 degrees, more than three notches below normal after 13.3 mm rainfall during the past 24 hours. However, after a brief relief due to rain and winds, sun appeared resulting in humid and hot weather again.
He said the sky would be generally cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 27 degrees and 16 degrees, again below normal during the next 24 hours. Pahalgam, the famous health resort about 100 km from here in south Kashmir recorded 14.1 degrees as minimum temperature, a notch above normal.
However, at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, the gateway of Kashmir Qazigund, Kokernag and Kupwara recorded normal or near normal minimum temperatures. There was slight increase in the minimum temperature at Leh in Ladakh region, he said adding against yesterdays 18.3 degrees it was 18.5 degrees.
At Kargil, a border town in the region on Srinagar-Leh national highway, the minimum temperature witnessed considerable increase. Against yesterday’s 12 degree minimum temperature it was 15.5 degrees, he said.
They would be mainly clear and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 28 degrees and 18 degrees respectively in Leh during the next 24 hours, he said. (UNI)
