JAMMU, Dec 1: Again a low percentage of voting was reported by the Kashmiri migrants in the second Phase of District Development Council (DDC) elections today.
Out of 25 DDC constituencies for which special polling booths were established at Government Degree College for Women, Gandhi Nagar here, one polling booth of Radi Chowkibal in North Kashmir district of Kupwara was cancelled as no ballot papers and election material were received for that constituency, as per the official sources.
For rest of 24 DDC constituencies of Kashmir valley, 196 votes were polled today. Out of them, 175 migrant votes were polled at GDC for Women Gandhi Nagar while 21 votes were cast at specially created polling booth at Udhampur.
Confirming this, Assistant Returning Officer, Migrants, Anushman Singh said that one polling booth for Radi Chowkibal in South Kashmir’s Kupwara district was cancelled after no polling material and ballot papers for that constituency were received.
Out of these 196 votes, 175 votes were polled at 11 polling booths of GDC for Women Gandhi Nagar while 21 were cast at polling booth Udhampur. However, no vote was polled in rest 13 polling booths of remaining constituencies.
He said 8103 ballot papers for migrants were received for these 24 constituencies. Out of the 175 votes polled in Jammu, 15 migrants vote for Kunzar constituency in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district , 10 for Manzgam in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, 15 in Pumbai, Kulgam district ,41 in Shangus in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, 37 in Shadimarg in Pulwama district of South Kashmir, five in Tral constituency in Pulwama district of South Kashmir, 41 in Kangan in Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir, 22 in Khanmoh in Srinagar district of South Kashmir, four in Ramhaul in North Kashmir district of Anantnag and one in Khag in Budgam district of Central Kashmir.
