JAMMU, Apr 3: In a major relief to the parents and their children in the age group of 5 to 6 years, Directorate of School Education Jammu today ordered giving relaxation in age criteria for admission in Class Ist for the academic session 2023-24.
“The students, who have completed two/three years in the pre-primary classes, as the case may be, and have attained the age of more than five years as on March 31, 2023, shall be admitted in the Class Ist in the academic session 2023-23,” read a Government circular, signed by Director School Education Jammu, Ravi Shankar Sharma and issued today.
The age relaxation has been given following a large number of complaints received from parents regarding denial of admission to their wards by various schools in Class Ist on the plea that the age of their wards is less than six years and as per the new National education Policy, the age for admission in class Ist should be six years.
As per the past practice, the children were got admitted at the age of 2 plus years in Nursery class and such students have completed three years in the pre-primary level and are now in the age group of 5 plus years.
According to DSEJ Ravi Shankar Sharma, withholding the admission of such children by a year would have attributed to loss of an academic year as they are due for admission in class Ist in the session 2023-24.
