JAMMU, Oct 1: Some residents of the area near Railway Station Jammu, whose houses were demolished by Jammu Development Authority (JDA) this morning, have appealed Governor Satya Pal Malik to order an immediate enquiry into the conduct of JDA, which demolished their legal structures without even serving an official notice.
Talking to media persons, here today, the aggrieved owners of the demolished houses, claimed that they have all legal and original documents pertaining to their ownership of the said land as well as legal permission from Jammu Municipal Corporation for construction of the houses, which were built three decades ago.
“We are not against the anti-encroachment drive but have failed to understand why our legal houses were demolished thus rendering us homeless,” said Sat Pal Sharma, one of the aggrieved, and claimed to have all relevant Revenue recordings establishing that he had purchased the said piece of land in the year 1991.
Alleging that the drive was motivated and carried out with the intention to harass the law abiding citizens, he urged the Governor to direct the JDA officials to come clear on the matter.
He also demanded compensation from JDA for demolishing their houses and other related assets, kept inside during demolition drive.
Along with Sat Pal Sharma, S Hardev Singh and Ishan Sharma, whose houses have also been demolition by the JDA, were present in the press conference.
