Agri commodities to be traded through E-NAM platform: Mahajan

JAMMU, Apr 28: There is a good news for farmers and growers of J&K that Agriculture commodities will shortly be traded through E NAM platform.
This was informed by Vishesh Mahajan, Director Horticulture Planning and Marketing Department, while addressing officers of the Department, in virtual conference on National Agriculture Market (eNAM).
He said that the Department is focused upon making E-NAM a success in J&K and shortly farmers and growers will be doing online trading of agricultural commodities in J&K UT.
The Director informed that E-NAM is a pan-India electronic trading portal which networks the existing APMC mandis to create a unified national market for agricultural commodities. Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC) is the lead agency for implementing eNAM under the aegis of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India. The scheme is being promoted under leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha and Navin Chowdhury Principal Secretary to J&K Government Agriculture and Horticulture Department to promote uniformity in agriculture marketing by streamlining of procedures across the integrated markets, removing information asymmetry between buyers and sellers and promoting real time price discovery based on actual demand and supply.
Director Horticulture Planning and Marketing informed that presently two Terminal Fruit and Vegetables Markets i.e., Narwal Jammu and Parimpora in Kashmir have been provided with the E-NAM platform and shortly 13 more Mandis in J&K shall also be equipped with the E-NAM platform so as to empower farmers and growers of J&K fully.
Yogin Sharma, co-ordinator for implementation of E-NAM in J&K replied to queries raised by the departmental officers. The Department has launched a vigorous campaign in the field to register farmers and growers of J&K so as to enable them to get benefits of the E-NAM platform.
