Agri Deptt stall awarded first prize in Jhiri Mela

JAMMU, Nov 25: Department of Agriculture, Jammu was presented trophy and a cash prize of Rs 10,000 as the first prize for its display of different activities in exhibition stalls established during the Jhiri Mela 2013 by Ch. Sukhnandan Singh MLA Marh who was the chief guest at the occasion.
The prize was received by Joint Director of Agriculture (Inputs) Jammu Susheel Sahani,, Chief Agriculture Officer, Jammu,  Distt. Agri. Officers Vinod Ganju, Matinder Singh, SDAO Marh Vinay Bhola, AEO Mishriwala Mohan Singh, and other officers of the Sub-Division Marh. AC(G) Jammu Shehnaz Choudhary, BDO Marh Wasim Raja Khan, Local Sarpanchs Ashok Mahajan, Gurbachan Singh and Sham Lal were also present.
Ch Sukhnandan said that the field functionaries of the department are helping the farmers to increase their production by making them to adopt new techniques and use of latest inputs especially the innovative machinery. He added that the department is also providing door step services such as soil testing,  crop disease diagnosis and management, Kissan Credit Cards etc. at the grass root level. Exhibition Stalls established by Department of Agriculture, Jammu were the main attraction for the farmers from the very first day of Annual Jhiri Fair.
The Agriculture Section was inspected by Raman Bhalla, Minister for Housing & Horticulture, Sukhnandan Choudhary, MLA Marh Indu Pawar, MLA, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, District Development Commissioner, Jammu and was selected for the first prize on the inaugural day of Jhiri Mela by the selection committee. More than 200 live exhibits of paddy, maize, vegetables, mushroom and sugarcane crops brought by the farmers of different places were displayed to the public after registration and assessment by the Judging Committee. Prizes were given to 137 farmers for best exhibits out of which 28 comprised of Ist prizes, 31 IInd, 27 3rd besides 51 consolation prizes.
