VALENCIA (SPAIN), Dec 17: The Indian delegation headed by Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir which is on seven day visit to Spain to study the technologies being used by the host country in the production, post harvesting and quality control of saffron, this morning visited University of Castilla La- Mancha Albacetae and deliberated on various issues regarding the quality control of saffron.
Besides the Minister, the meeting was attended from Indian side by, Managing Director National Horticulture Board, R .K. Tiwari, Director Agriculture Kashmir, Mushtaq Peerzada, Saffron Scientist, Prof Dr F.A.Nehvi, Deputy Director National Horticulture Board, C.P.Gandhi, Abdul Majeed a progressive saffron farmer from Kashmir and by Dr Amayai Zalacain, Dr Manual Carmona, Dr Alonso, Miguel Valeso from Spain side. The delegation later visited the quality lab testing of the university.
The delegation also held a meeting with Dr Rosa Victoria Molina, Professor Department of Plant Production Polytechnic University Valencia and discussed the techniques for protected saffron cultivation
Earlier, the delegation visited the saffron fields of “Ana Lenaa “De San Pedro, Parage vega La Retamosa villages in Albacetae and interacted with the farmers of Spain.
The delegation also visited the industrial park at Albecetae, where the delegation was shown various machines used in corm sorting, corm plantation, corm digging, stigma Separation and saffron drying.
