JAMMU, Sept 25: Agrometeorology Section of SKUAST-Jammu today organized one day awareness camp at village Dabbar in Bishnah Block, Jammu, under SC-SP Programme of AICRPAM Project and sensitized the farmer on the future climate change effect.
During the camp, Dr Mahender Singh, Incharge, Agrometeorology, discussed in detail about objective of the programme and gave detailed information on importance of agromet advisory services in field management operations.
Prof Jag Paul Sharma, Director Research was chief guest on the occasion and he encouraged the farmers for more plantation of fruit trees and vegetable crops for enhancement of their income.
Dr V B Singh, In charge, RRSS, Raya, stressed farmers for adopting new vegetable garden techniques and highlighted the role of weather factors on disease development and their management in horticultural and vegetable crops.
Dr Rakesh Kumar, Jr Scientist gave detailed information on new technologies of vegetable and fruit cultivation under changing climate scenario. Dr Veena Sharma, Technical officer, AMFU – Chatha explained farmers about different soil health management techniques in detail and role of weather in management of the soil health. Dr Rohit Sharma, Technical officer, AMFU – Rajouri gave detailed information on the use of weather and climate based agro-advisories in day to day agriculture activities and stressed upon the farmers to make more and more utilization of services rendered by Agrometerology Section, SKUAST – Jammu. Dr Vishaw Vikas explained in detail the importance of organics in vegetables and fruit cultivation.
Dr Charu Sharma presented the vote of thanks and motivated the farmers to take maximum advantage from this awareness programme as well as the services provided by SKUAST – Jammu.
On the occasion, saplings of multipurpose trees along with seeds of the different vegetable crops were distributed among farmers by Director Research, SKUST -J. During the camp, a dental check up camp was also organized by Dr Imtiaz Malik and his team.
