Sir,
The initiative to establish AI labs in Jammu and Kashmir’s universities (“AI Revolution in J&K,” March 5) is a forward-thinking move that aligns with global technological advancements. AI is reshaping industries, and equipping J&K’s youth with AI skills will enhance employability and innovation. The focus on integrating AI research with local industries—such as agriculture, tourism, and healthcare—will drive economic growth and efficiency.
However, for this initiative to succeed, structured training programs and industry collaborations are essential. Universities must adopt flexible AI curricula, including hands-on training and coding boot camps, to ensure students gain practical expertise. Additionally, ethical AI development should be prioritised to prevent biases and ensure fair implementation.
A well-planned roadmap, as suggested by the Lieutenant Governor, will be key to realizing J&K’s potential as an AI-driven economy. This initiative must be pursued with commitment to empower youth and boost regional development.
