AIIMS in Jammu

Sir,
Refer to Promod Dogra’s article, on the need for early AIIMS at Jammu and starting a temporary OPD facility, DE Feb 16.
Everyday patients in Jammu and Kashmir are suffering due to lack of good and affordable medical care. We need more experienced doctors from outside, which an institution like AIIMS can definitely attract.
The construction of the two proposed AIIMS in the State under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) at Vijaypur, Jammu and Awantipora, Kashmir, need to be prioritized by the Government. Sites have already been identified. Next actions for pre-bid processes need to be completed and tenders should be awarded at the earliest. If things go well, the whole process to get the AIIMS medical college and hospital up and running may still take 3-4 years.
Hence the author’s suggestion to setup a temporary OPD is very relevant. This will immediately provide relief to masses at an affordable cost. Patients won’t need to travel outside the State for expert options. If AIIMS Nagpur can proceed in this manner to setup a temporary OPD, I am sure J&K also can go down this path. This is definitely the “need of the hour”.
Yours etc…
