JAMMU, Aug 10: AIIMS Jammu, in collaboration with the National Institute of Biologicals (NIB) Noida, successfully hosted a two-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) program titled “Hemovigilance and its Clinical Relevance,” focusing on enhancing Hemovigilance practices. The event aimed to improve healthcare professionals’ understanding of transfusion-related risks, emphasizing best practices and patient safety.
Inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Jammu, the CME attracted 120 participants, including faculty, senior residents, and nursing officers. The program featured expert sessions from prominent speakers like Prof (Dr) Gita Negi, Head of Transfusion Medicine at AIIMS Rishikesh and Dr Akanksha Bisht, Head of the Hemovigilance Program of India (HvPI) at NIB Noida.
Interactive discussions, case-based learning, and practical sessions addressed real-world Hemovigilance challenges. Participants gained valuable insights into identifying, managing, and reporting transfusion-related adverse events, contributing to the enhancement of transfusion safety.
Prof Gupta highlighted the event’s significance, stating, “This CME reinforces our dedication to advancing transfusion medicine and ensuring the highest patient safety standards. Our collaboration with NIB Noida has brought together leading experts to drive improvements in Hemovigilance.”
Dr Akanksha Bisht emphasized the importance of ongoing education, noting, “Our collaboration with AIIMS Jammu underscores the critical role of shared expertise in enhancing Hemovigilance practices.”
The event also introduced a new Hemovigilance Nurse role at AIIMS Jammu, with Monika Rohilla trained for the position. Additionally, a Hospital Transfusion Committee was established to ensure effective patient care through collaboration among clinical departments and policymakers.
