JAMMU, June 26: World Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Day was observed by AIIMS Vijaypur (Jammu) with multipronged activities, including a multidisciplinary health camp and health promotional activities at tribe pre-dominate areas of Samba district and a poster competition among Nursing Officers of AIIMS Jammu on Sickle Cell Disease.
Under the guidance of Prof Shakti Kumar Gupta, ED & CEO, AIIMS Vijaypur (Jammu), the health camp and health promotional activity on Sickle Cell Disease was organized by the Institution in collaboration with the Department of Health, Samba at Sah Talab Panchayat Office, Purmandal Block (Samba).
Specialists from the departments of Community Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, General Medicine, Dermatology, and Orthopaedics actively participated in that event. The beneficiaries were provided consultation and medicines free of cost and were linked with specialists of AIIMS Vijaypur (Jammu), if required, for further consultation.
For all adult patients, blood pressure and blood sugar were measured, and ophthalmological examination was offered. The health camp was enthusiastically attended by around 100 people in the area. The event was also greatly supported by the local Sarpanch, other Panchayat members and Dr Sonia Gupta, Senior Medical Officer of Bari Khad Primary Health Centre. Dr Raj Kumar Sharma, Block Medical Officer, Purmandal Block, visited the camp and ensured support from the Department of Health.
A poster competition was carried out by the Department of Community Medicine in collaboration with the College of Nursing, AIIMS Jammu among Nursing Officers of AIIMS Jammu. The theme of the event was: “Transforming Lives, Defeating Sickle Cell: Together We Heal.” The conversation and explanation of the participants about their works of art reveal not only their skills but also their incredible knowledge of the topic.
