NEW DELHI, July 23: An delegation of All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS) called on Union Minister for Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs, M Venkaiah Naidu here today and apprised him about recent anti-Amarnath yatra violence at Baltal and the illegal encroachment of the land at Tirthraj Temple at Mattan.
The delegation comprising of M. L. Malla, Vijay Aima and Dr. Romesh Raina made a detailed presentation about the happenings at both the places to him. The delegation informed the Minister that it has left a bad impact on the pilgrims and Kashmiri Pandits living in Mattan. The delegation said such happenings have once again given rise to the insecurity and uncertainty among left over minorities in Kashmir and was sending a wrong signal especially at a time when Government of India was creating a blueprint for the return of displaced Kashmiri Pandits.
The Minister was urged to take immediate steps to stop anti-Amarnath yatra violence and evacuation of illegal encroachment of land at Tirthraj Temple, Mattan.
Mr Naidu assured the delegation that necessary steps needed to restore status-quo-ante at the temple site and also a hassle free and peaceful Amarnath yatra will be ensured. The authorities in this regard will be intimated, he added. A memorandum enlisting the issues was handed over to Minister by AIKS delegation.
The delegation demanded that a suitable mechanism of protection of both Amarnath yatris and the temple properties belonging to displaced Kashmiri Pandits be created to avoid further encroachment. This is important in order to create a sense of security and confidence among the people.
