Srinagar, Mar 12: Authorities late night released Awami Itihad Party (AIP) leader Bilal Sultan from preventive custody after over 7 months.
Sultan was detained on August 4, 2019 hours before Centre Government scrapped special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370.
Court ordered his release on bail on October 14 but he was again detained by Police within the premises of Centaur hotel which was turned into sub-jail then.
He along with 33 mainstream political leaders were shifted to MLA hostel. On December 3, District Magistrate granted him bail but authorities didn’t release him.
However after seven months of preventive detention, he was released last night. He was the last political leader who was released and now no one is in preventive custody as 8 other politicians including three former Chief Ministers were booked under Public Safety Act.
