LEH, Nov 25: All India Radio (AIR) Leh goes online from today and now listener can tune into AIR Leh from anywhere using android mobile and computer.
After running successfully on trail basis from November 19, HIAL Founder and Roman Magsaysay Awardee Sonam Wangchuk formally inaugurated the live streaming in presence of AIR staff headed by Programme Head Sonam Angchok in a function held at AIR today.
Terming it as historic day for Ladakhis, HIAL Founder Sonam Wangchuk urged AIR Leh to make more youth oriented programme to attract more youths. “Ever since its inception in 1971, AIR has played vital role in binding the entire Ladakh as one family through variety of programme” said Wangchuk adding that being Ladakhi it is important to stay connected with Ladakh even staying outside Ladakh and AIR is the medium for it through live streaming now.
He also expressed his gratitude to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar and Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal for making AIR online. He also urged them to make AIR Leh as capital station as presently AIR Leh is depended on Capital Station Srinagar.
AIR Leh Programme Head Sonam Angchok said that this facility will help all the internet user specially students, army, monks and local pilgrimage staying out of Ladakh to tune into all the AIR programmes including local news. He added that inspite of staff shortage AIR is doing its best to highlight local issues through various programmes from 7 am to 10:30 pm however there was limited audience but now it can be heard online www.newsonair.com or http://prasarbharati.gov.in from anywhere, said Angchok. He also expressed hope that Government will soon upgrade the AIR Leh upto 100 or 200 KV from existing 20 KV.
Pertinent to mention here that AIR Leh was opened on 25th June 1971 and ever since its hardware not been updated till date and the staff strengthen in the programme section reduced from 35 to 5 employees at present.
