Air traffic disrupted at Srinagar airport due to snowfall

SRINAGAR: Air traffic was disrupted at Srinagar International Airport, where all flights were cancelled due to poor visibility following heavy snowfall on Thursday.
There is no possibility of resuming the air traffic from the airport as there is forecast of snow during the next 24 hours.
An official said that no flight could be operated from the airport since early this morning due to poor visibility and heavy snowfall.
He said an operation has been launched to clear snow from the runway. However, he said the operation was being hampered due to continuous snowfall.
The official said that the air traffic can be resumed only after the improvement in the weather condition. “Till the time visibility improves and snowfall stops, flight can’t be operated from the airport,” he said, adding considering the forecast it is highly unlikely that the air traffic will resume on Thursday.
Meanwhile, passengers expressed disappointment over cancellation of flights from the only airport in the valley. “I had a connected flight to Dubai via Delhi today. But as the flight has cancelled, I have to wait for the flight to be rescheduled. Hopefully, the flights will operate on Friday as I have to join office on Sunday,” a passenger, Nazir Ahmad, said.
