Airlines ill-treating, harassing Ladakhis: MP

JAMMU, Mar 3: Thupstan Chhewang, MP from Ladakh strongly raised the matter of worse air services to Ladakh region as an urgent public importance issue during ‘Zero Hour’ in Lok Sabha.
“Hundreds of passengers traveling by air through different airlines are stranded at Delhi Airport Terminal 1 and 3 and at Jammu and Chandigarh Airports as the scheduled flights are being canceled due to bad weather conditions”, he said, adding that mode of travel to Ladakh during winter months is only by air as all roads remain closed for about 6 to 7 months.
He stated that the passengers traveling are pilgrims, patients, senior citizens, students and employees mostly from poor section of society.
The passengers bound for Ladakh are ill-treated, harassed and not provided with facilities and services as required under norms in terms of CAR Section 3, Series M, Part-IV, he stated.
He added that there are instances of airline staff insulting, harassing and ill-treating passengers especially by Jet Airways, Go Air and even Air India.
He requested Ministry of Civil Aviation to enquire into the matter and initiate action against erring airlines for violation of norm.
