Airport re-opens after 3 days

SRINAGAR, Nov 26: In a major relief to the people and travelers who were stranded due to cancellation of flights for last three days due to dense fog, weather improved and flights landed at Srinagar airport this afternoon.
The officials at the Srinagar airport said that air traffic resumed this afternoon. The State aircraft carrying Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and several other Ministers also took off from the Airport.
A SpiceJet flight first landed at the airport followed by Indigo and it was the first flight as well to take off from here in the last four days. Some flights were delayed in the morning due to poor visibility but no flight was cancelled.
Air traffic from Srinagar Airport remained suspended for the past three days due to foggy conditions, leaving thousands of passengers, including tourists, stranded. The tourists and other stranded passenger had a sigh of relief with the improvement of weather.
The hills in Kashmir experienced snowfall and Valley was lashed by rains this evening bringing respite to the people from cold and dry weather.
The Meteorological Department here had forecast rains over the plains and snowfall over the higher reaches to provide respite from foggy conditions.
The minimum temperature showed some improvement and Srinagar recorded 5.6 degrees Celsius, over a degree up from the previous night. Gulmarg in North Kashmir recorded a low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius and was the only place in the Valley where mercury stayed below the freezing point.
In the evening, it started snowing up in the hills and Gulmarg bringing cheer to the visiting tourists.
