AISGEF denounces decision to freeze employees’ DA

JAMMU, Apr 27: All India State Govt Employees Federation (AISGEF) has denounced the Central Govt’s decision to freeze, rather confiscate, the increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) of the Government employees and pensioners, which is due from January 2020 and also future dues till July 2021.
Subhash Lamba, president of the Federation said that no doubt the country had been passing through financial crisis, but the Government employees are fighting deadly Corona virus as front line workers, ignoring their own health and life and especially those whose services come under essential services like -Health, Urban Local Bodies, Power, PHE/ Jal Shakti, CAPD, Police, Railways, Postal services etc.
Though the Government is not providing them adequate safety equipments, yet they are working like soldiers. The Central and State Government employees have donated crores of rupees in PM Cares Fund and CM Relief Fund for COVID-19 pandemic. Even the big industrialists, businessmen and citizens of the country are also donating millions of rupees in these funds. Then why the employees are being made to suffer despite the fact that they are already facing the brunt of inflation.
Lamba said this decision of the Government is against the welfare and the interests of the employees and pensioners. While announcing this, the Government did not bother to consult trade unions and federations of the Government employees. It is very unfortunate and unfair decision and has created strong resentment among the Government employees and pensioners, Lamba regretted.
AISGEF national secretary Mohammed Maqbool strongly urged that the response to financial crisis by the central Government must start with the measures to garner resources from the rich class. As per OXFAM report, combined wealth amassed by only 63 billionaires in India is more than the total Union Budget of 2018-19 which was at Rs 24,42,200 crores. Top 10 % of the population cornered 77 % of the national wealth. Wealth of India’s richest one per cent is 4 times more than the bottom 70 %. There fore, the Government must tap this huge accumulation of wealth with barely 5 % of the ulta- rich, amassed mostly through undue and illegitimate patronization and economic policies of the regime.
Maqbool strongly demanded withdrawal of this DA confiscation order by the Central Govt in the larger interest of the employees and pensioners.
