JAMMU, Aug 3: Representatives of All India Vaish Federation (AIVF)-Mahajans, Khatris, Sikhs, Aggarwals and Jains have warned the Union and J&K governments that if the law prohibiting purchase of agriculture land by Khatris, Mahajans, Aggarwals, Sikhs, Jains etc in J&K is not immediately withdrawn then the people belonging to these communities will start a massive agitation.
Addressing a press conference here today, Rajiv Mahajan, AIVF youth president said, it is really an irony that in the newly formed Union Territory some communities have been specifically deprived of the genuine rights thus resorting to blatant discrimination against them sans any logic.
“A fortnight back we expressed resentment against the law prohibiting purchase and sale of agricultural land by Khatris, Mahajans, Aggarwals, Sikhs, Jains etc and demanded its immediate roll back but the Government paid no heed,” he said.
Referring to the statement of BJP leader, Ravinder Raina wherein he claimed that BJP will win 50 plus seats in Assembly elections, Mahajan said that Raina needs to realize the ground situation in view of such discriminatory laws.
“Khatris, Mahajans, Aggarwals, Sikhs, Jains etc together constitute a substantial section of voters in Jammu region and if the Government does not withdraw this law, then BJP will hardly get five seats in next Assembly elections,” he claimed.
Mahajan said that a meeting of all the prominent persons of the affected communities today resolved that if the
Government failed to withdraw the discriminatory law within 15 days then a massive agitation will be launched.
Varinder Gupta, general secretary AIVF; Devender Seth, Vishal Khatri Sabha; Atul Aggarwal, Jaswinder Singh, Abhinandan Jain and Harpal Singh were also present in the press conference.
