JAMMU, Aug 22: Minister of State for Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Haj and Auquaf, Rural Development and Fisheries, Ajaz Ahmed Khan has emphasized the need of adopting innovative measures to boost Animal and Sheep Husbandry sectors so that socio-economic conditions of the communities particularly farmers, nomads associated with livestock rearing would be improved.
The Minister said this while chairing a meeting held to review the progress and achievements of Animal and Sheep Husbandry Departments here today.
The meeting was attended by Director Sheep Husbandry Jammu, Dr. S.K. Sharma, Director Animal Husbandry Jammu, Dr PK Mangotra besides senior officers of concerned departments.
During the meeting detailed discussion was held regarding physical and financial progress achieved under centrally sponsored schemes including Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY), Assistance to States For Control of Animal Diseases (ASCAD), Integrated Development of Small Ruminants and Rabbits (IDSRR), Integrated Sample Survey (ISS), SGSY, Rural Development, ATMA and various state and district sector schemes.
The Minister directed the concerned authorities to chalk out strategies to raise the scale of breeding, wool production, milk production, breeding through artificial insemination by adopting recently introduced Frozen Semen technology. He stressed on cross breeding with elite Germplasm with the objective to improve the productivity of the livestock of the state especially in mutton, milk and wool sectors.
The Minister was apprised that under healthcare and expansion segments various preventive measures have been taken to treat the livestock from killer diseases. Besides, the department under Sher-e-Kashmir Employment Generation Scheme, NABARD and other State and Centre sponsored schemes is providing employment opportunities to unemployed youth enabling them to start their own income generating units.
The Minister underlined the need to organize awareness camps, fairs in interiors of rural areas to make aware the people about the policies and schemes of the department. He stressed for involving public and representatives from panchayats so that all the schemes of the departments are implemented at grass root level. He directed the officers to identify clusters in their respective areas so that artificial breeding would be introduced in attended remote areas. He also enquired about the status of new modern poultry farms being established in districts of Jammu region.
