Ajaz stresses on time bound settlement operations

SRINAGAR, May 8: Minister of State for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Ajaz Ahmad Khan today stressed on the need for time bound completion of settlement operations in the State even as he suggested using scientific inputs for attaining the results.
Chairing a review meeting of Settlement, Custodian and other wings of Revenue Department here today, the Minister underscored the need for undertaking settlement operations in a time bound manner to update the land records of the State.
The Minister asked for rationalization and redeployment of underutilized staff for completing the operations in time, adding that to overcome the shortage of necessary revenue officers, services of retired and experienced officers should also be utilized in the process. He also directed for removing the anomaly of powers of revenue officers associated with the operations and directed for re-structuring of hierarchy in the Settlement Department for obtaining optimum results.
The meeting was told that so far the settlement operations are in process in 42 tehsils of the state.
Mr. Ajaz also directed the Revenue authorities to compile the details of compensation given to land owners whose lands are being acquired for various infrastructure development projects.
The meeting was attended by Secretary, Revenue, Vinod Koul, Settlement Commissioner, Latief u Zaman Deva, Custodian General, A. M. Mir and other officers.
