AJHLA for assessment of losses caused to tourism projects

JAMMU, Sept 19: All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association (AJHLA) held a meeting under the leadership of its president Inderjeet Khajuria and discussed the flood scenario and relief operations.
Addressing the members, Khajuria called upon the State Government to make a deep assessment in the losses caused in the ongoing tourism related projects due to recent floods.
He said that the “Tawi Artificial Lake Project”, which was at the stage of completion, has suffered lot of losses due to damage caused by recent floods, adding that the damage to fourth bridge due to washing of the embankments on both sides of Tawi needs immediate reconstruction.
Khajuria added that the Tawi river at present is free from all sorts of illegal encroachments and Government should ensure that Tawi banks should always remain encroachment-free in future too, even in this regard High Court has issued directions.
He further said that the proposed beautification of embankments by providing parks, tree plantations and colouful lights should be installed immediately. He said that to make the Artificial Lake water free from filth and municipal waste, the proposed 17 diversion channels need immediate construction to make the project viable.
Mentioning about the damages caused to Hari Singh Park on the right bank of Tawi adjoining Jogi Gate, he said that the park is required to be retrieved as the fencing at so many places have been damaged and given a free access to the stray animals and anti-social elements.
He said that the park being adjacent to lake has a tourism attraction alongwith scenic value and there is need to provide a coffee house coupled with light and sound system, so that all the cultural programmes in future are celebrated in this park.
He also demanded immediate repair of roads like Jammu-Suchetgarh, Jammu-Mansar via Samba, Jammu-Mansar via Sidhra-Surinasar and Jammu-Utterbani-Parmandal.
