JAMMU, Oct 9: A deputation of All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association (AJHLA) headed by Inderjeet Khajuria, president, AJHLA, met the Vice Chairman, Jammu Development Authority, Mubarak Singh in his office and presented a memorandum on the pathetic condition of Hari Singh Park.
Khajuria explained that since April 2012 the park suffered a total neglect resulting in damage to the boundary fencing walls and embankments along the Tawi River. He alleged that the Park has been reduced to a gambler den, garbage dumping place and safe place for unscrupulous elements, illegal parking and grazing ground for stray cattle.
Suggesting the VC, Khajuria said the park should be developed on modern lines due to its prime location which will boost the tourism potential of Jammu. The suggestions included proper repairs to the damaged boundary, PCC posts fencing, repairs to the damaged Tawi embankments landscaping for designing of lawns with flower beds as per floriculture with varieties of seasonal and annual flowers are to be drawn on ground.
“Similarly the provision of sitting arrangements with drinking water has to be made for the visiting public, tourists and pilgrims. Colourful lights in the vicinity, fountains and light and sound system for decoration of the avenue, a cafeteria and the amphi theatre will boost the flow of visitors. Besides, Joggers walkways will storm the venue with morning and evening walkers to have a fresh air of Tawi Lake”, he added.
The association suggested that all the Government cultural programmes should be celebrated in the Lake/Park site on the pattern of Dal Lake in Srinagar.
