RAJOURI, June 26: All J&K Kissan Union (AJKKU) today held a protest demonstration in front of the office of Executive Engineer, Irrigation, demanding restoration of water supply to the Irrigation channels (Khuls).
A large number of people of Rajouri and Poonch in general and Kalakote Assembly Segment in particular under the leadership of former legislator and chairman, AJKKU, Ashok Sharma, assembled in front of office of Executive Engineer Irrigation and raised slogans in support of their demands.
While addressing the dharna, Ashok Sharma said that out of hundreds of Irrigation and Zimandaras Khuls in Rajouri and Poonch districts and dozens of such khuls falling in Kalakote Assembly Segment constructed/managed by the departments of Irrigation and Flood Controls and Rural Development, a very few channels are functional, as after last year’s flood no restoration work was executed on these channels.
Later, a written memorandum was submitted to Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, who assured to take early steps to consider the demands and also recommend to the higher authorities for early redressal.
