JAMMU, Mar 12: All Jammu Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) today urged upon the Governor Satya Pal Malik for immediate transfer of Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Indu Kanwal Chib from the post for misbehaving and using abusive language against a lady Sarpanch.
The Conference also extended full support to the lady Sarpanch of Panchayat Halqa Jodda in Arnas block, Shamima Akhtar and said every elected Panch and Sarpanch stood by her side.
“We strongly condemn the mis-behaviour of the Deputy Commissioner who has tried to muzzle the voice of an elected Sarpanch. We are living in a democratic country and the Deputy Commissioners must bear this thing in mind. She (DC) does not deserve to be Deputy Commissioner as she holds the office of larger public dealing. If an elected lady Sarpanch was misbehaved, how could a common man being treated there,” Anil Sharma, state president of AJKPC told reporters here.
Sharma said it would set a wrong precedence if the Governor does not initiate action against the Deputy Commissioner as it would demean the grass-roots level democratic institutions.
The victim woman Sarpanch, while narrating the incident, said “I want justice from the Governor as the Deputy Commissioner has tarnished my image by using unparliamentary language in full public view”.
“On March 8, the Deputy Commissioner Reasi had convened a public meeting when she used abusive language against me and my husband. She did not bother to listen to our grievances and hurled abuses. She threatened to cancel my election as Sarpanch which is undemocratic, unethical and against the rules. I want to ask under which rule she wanted to cancel my election,” Shamima Akhtar said.
The AJKPC members also held a protest demonstration against the misbehaviour with the lady Sarpanch and demanded her immediate transfer from the post.
