AJKPC welcomes Cabinet approval to 73rd Amendment

JAMMU, Feb 9: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC), the frontline organization of elected Sarpanchs and Panchs, spearheading the struggle for empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions has welcomed the J&K Cabinet decision of approving amendments in the Panchayati Raj Act for incorporating the all major provisions of the 73rd Amendment into J&K Panchayati Raj Act 1989.
Talking to media-persons here today, president of the AJKPC Anil Sharma said that this is a historic decision all over 33000 Panchayat Members appreciate the gesture of the Union Government and the Coalition Government in the State. This decision would obviously strengthen the grass root level democracy in Jammu and Kashmir and further empower the people through democratic process. The credit to meet this long pending demand of the elected Panchs and Sarpanchs for incorporation of all the provisions of the 73rd constitutional amendment to the State’s PRI Act goes to AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi who personally showed keen interest in the empowerment of Panchayats.
The AJKPC extended gratitude to Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and PCC chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz besides other cabinet ministers who played their important role for giving their nod to the amendments in the JK Panchayati Raj Act.
The AJKPC president, however, resquested all the members of the State Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council to formulate and pass a strong legislation on the floor of both the Houses to empower the masses at the grass root level. Vimla Devi president women wing, Ghulam Hassan Punzoo chief spokesperson, Kulbhushan Khajuria additional general secretary and Gautam Singh Jamwal provincial president were also present.
