JAMMU, Nov 5: Expressing hope on Narendra Modi led Central Government, the State unit of Akali Dal has appealed PM to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the involvement of culprits in 1984 Sikh genocide and to do justice with Sikh victim families.
Addressing a joint press conference, president, State Akali Dal, Gajan Singh, president, Freedom Fighters’ Association (FFA), Ved Gandotra and president, General Bikram Singh Yadgaar Committee (GBSYC), Harinder Singh, said that Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her security guards and they got Capital punishment, but what happened to those innocents brutally killed innocent Sikhs, raped women folk, the children burnt alive and business establishments looted on the behest of senior Congress leaders for continuous 72 hours in the National capital and in the Congress ruled States.
They said the worst affected were Delhi Sikhs who constitute only 9% of the Delhi population and are mostly 1947 refugees from Pakistan area.
Gajan Singh said, “The Sikhs are microscopic minority but the sacrifices of Sikhs in freedom struggle against Mughals and British Empire and wars against Pakistan in 1965, 1971 as well as Kargil conflict and China War in 1962 are foremost but it is shame for us Indians that even after the lapse of 30 years justice is still away from affected Sikh families.”
Pointing out that Rahul Gandhi had last year said that some senior Congress leaders were involved in 1984 Sikhs genocide, Gajan Singh questioned why the Congress party has not taken action against its those leaders.
He said that now the ray of hope has emerged as PM Narendra Modi applied balm on festering wounds of the kin of 1984 Sikhs genocide by announcing enhanced ex-gratia relief to them.
The Sikh leaders appealed PM to form a SIT to probe 1984 Sikhs genocide case and hang those found guilty.
Earlier, the leaders paid homage to the departed souls by observing two minutes silence.
