SRINAGAR, Dec 12: Akashvani Srinagar hosted a mesmerizing folk musical concert today, bringing together a diverse audience to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir.
The event, held at the Akashvani Srinagar auditorium, showcased the region’s vibrant folk traditions through powerful performances that captivated music lovers from all walks of life. The event, held in the auditorium of Akashvani Srinagar, featured mesmerizing folk performances by Farooq Ahmad Ganal and his party.
The highlight of the evening was an all-women Sufi folk group performance led by Irfana Yousuf, which left the audience spellbound with its soulful renditions. The concert also featured a compelling folk theatre music performance by Manzoor Ahmad Bhat and his ensemble, as well as a captivating Qawali session by renowned performer Shafi Sopori and his group.
Gurbinder Singh, Head of Office and Chief Guest at the event, addressed the gathering. He emphasized Akashvani Srinagar’s ongoing efforts to preserve and promote local music and cultural traditions in the face of evolving media landscapes. “Our station has a proud legacy in supporting local music, and we are committed to continuing this tradition for generations to come,” he said.
Ghulam Rasool Akhoon, Head of Program, highlighted the significance of such cultural events in today’s rapidly modernizing world, stressing the importance of safeguarding traditional art forms. Dheeraj Prakash, Programme Officer from the Directorate of Akashvani, was also present as a special guest at the event.
Among the eminent participants were Syed Humayun Qaisar, Showkat Shafi Masoodi, Rahim Rehbar, Shakeel ur Rehman, and Prof. Parvaiz Majeed.
