Akhoon inaugurates protection bund on river Suroo

KARGIL, Nov 9: Minister for Consumer Affairs, Public Distribution and Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon today inaugurated RCC protection bund and channelization work on river Suroo completed at a cost of Rs. 4.91 crore.
The Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil, Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan was also present.
On this occasion, the Minister was informed that with the construction of protection bund not only the Kargil town and the National Highway along the river Suroo will be protected from the erosion but also 17 kanal of land has been created which can be utilized for construction of bus stand at Kargil town.
The Minister reiterated that the present Coalition Government is committed for the welfare and development of the State, adding that various schemes have been launched for socio-economic development of the people. He said that the long pending demand of the construction of Zojila tunnel will be fulfilled shortly. He also declared that civil aviation service will be put in during the winter season to facilitate the people of Kargil to travel to other areas of the State.
Regarding the other facilities being extended to the people of the area, the Minister said that Kargil House has already been constructed at Jammu as well as Srinagar besides hostels for the students pursuing their studies outside the district, adding that land has also been acquired for the construction of Kargil House at Delhi.
Earlier, the Minister inaugurated HDFC Bank Branch in Kargil town with modern banking facilities.
Among others, Executive Councilors, Haji G.M. Mir and Syed Kazim Sabere, various District Officers and large number of people were present on the occasion.
