Alert CRPF personnel avert major tragedy

UDHAMPUR, Oct 6: Displaying presence of mind and courage, personnel of 187 Bn CRPF averted a major tragedy here in District Jail Udhampur when a LPG cylinder caught fire.
The LPG cylinder caught fire in the residence of Ct Mahendra Lal of Jail Police who received burn injuries on right elbow and shoulder.  The residence is situated on the first floor of the multi-storied residential complex.
Acting quickly, Manoj Kumar, Assistant Commandant (Company Commander) of 187 Bn CRPF, along with his men, rushed to the spot and entered the room amidst fire by wrapping a blanket over himself. He threw a wet blanket over the burning cylinder, pulled it and threw it outside the building. Thereafter, all the personnel took control over the fire and extinguished it by throwing water over it.
The injured Ct Mahendra Lal was evacuated immediately and rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The presence of mind of the Company Commander along with courage of his men averted a major accident.
