SAMBA, June 9: Though children of various Government and private schools brought laurels to their institutions in Jammu region in recently declared Class 12 th results of J&K Board of School Education, shockingly all students of Government Higher Secondary School Goran of Sumb block in the hilly area of Samba district have failed.
The declaration of the result has come as a bolt from blue to everyone including parents of students, their relatives and teachers. There were only seven children in class 12th in the school, out of which 4 children were of Science stream while the other three were in Arts stream. After hearing the results, the school staff, children, their parents as well as locals were stunned. In the year 2018, Goran High School was upgraded as Higher Secondary School. Before this all the children of Goran area and other adjoining villages used to go to study in Higher Secondary Sumb.
Jammu Kashmir Education Board and Education Department continuously tried to increase the number of children to study in Government schools. Their employees also organized awareness camps from time to time, but when such results come out, everyone is forced to think many times before enrolling their children in Government schools. In Samba district, it is a rare case when all the children of a Government school have failed. Earlier in the year 2015, all the children of class 10 in High School Diyani of Samba had failed, but the Education Department and the district administration had taken strict cognizance of that. The then District Development Commissioner, Sheetal Nanda herself took the initiative to visit the school and teach the children, after which there was a lot of improvement in the level of education in that school.
“Our area is very remote where the level of education is already not so good and such results also have a great impact on the morale of other children. Most of the villages in Sumb area do not have roads, so children walk several kilometers to get education in school. All teachers should make children work as hard as possible so that children from villages can compete with children from cities. All teachers should be transferred from this school to other schools and strict action should be taken against them so that such results are never seen in future said Balwan Singh, vice president District Development Council Samba.
“We had a total of seven children in class 12th, most of the children were very good in studies. One girl did not give practicals and three children have failed by very low marks. All the children will apply for revaluation and we are confident that these children will pass class 12th. The school administration was also stunned after hearing the results because no one could believe this, yet strict cognizance has been taken and show cause notice has been issued against the teachers of Physics, Chemistry and Maths subjects said Vikram Singh, Principal Higher Secondary School, Goran, Samba.
